Picking your own apples from the tree is very satisfying and crab apples also make a lovely apple juice. If you don’t have your own, visit your local farmers market or store to pick some up. You won’t need many to make a delicious glass of juice. Makes sure you give them a wash.
Slice the apples and slowly simmer them in some water in a saucepan over medium heat. Use just enough water to cover the apples and allow them to break down to a soft mush. You can help them along by mashing them occasionally as well with a fork or a potato masher.
Strain the liquid into another bowl and continue to filter it until it is as clear as you would like it. Then you can add flavours to it by squeezing in some fresh lemon juice or your mint leaves. You could spice it up with other herbs and spices, the option is all yours!
Also, don’t forget that you can use the leftover apple pulp and skins to make an apple sauce or add to another dish, so nothing has to go to waste which is one of the great things about cooking with apples. Plus don’t forget to use your apples in an Autumnal apple crumble.
